This page introduces you to the Begin You campaign and community marketing assets. These are samples which can be customized to the features of your lodge and your community. 

Raising the visibility of your lodge begins with a bit of market research into your community. Next, is a review of the unique features of your community and an appraisal of your lodge's existing connections to them. Marketers call this an "opportunity assessment" because it gives you clues where to get the best bang for your buck. 

Members of The Cornerstone Project team will help guide you through the process. It sounds more complicated than it really is - but it reveals lots of things your lodge can consider doing to help more good men find you.

Community Visibility: the Begin You Campaign
Begin You is a community visibility campaign created by the Membership Committee of the Grand Lodge of British Columbia & Yukon.

 

Begin You is an advertising and marketing campaign aimed at the public - men who might join us, the people in their lives who influence their decision, and the communities across BC and Yukon. 

The campaign comprises billboards, posters, social media, leaflets, etc. Together they aim to raise awareness, encourage enquiry and introduce Freemasonry to good men across our jurisdiction. 

Begin You, therefore, is the public-facing part of a larger initiative called The Cornerstone Project which is focussed on helping lodges improve the internal experience. The whole of The Cornerstone Project assists lodges in driving success in all areas of lodge life.

Link your lodge's homepage to the Begin You marketing campaign and recruiting microsite.

 

The Begin You microsite is different than a regular lodge website which is built for members. This site have been specially designed by online marketing industry experts to quickly connect visitors with information and action. It's called a marketing funnel and that just means it is designed to connect visitors to us easily so we can talk in person, by phone or by email and make sure all their questions are answered. 

This site is designed to make it easy for us to start conversations with prospective new Freemasons.

What to Do
  1. Download either the tall or short button

  2. Get your web master to add it to your lodge homepage. It should be near the top of the page and highly visible. You want first-time visitors to see it right away and click it. 

  3. Link the button to the Begin You website: https://www.beginyou.bcy.ca 

  4. Test it by click the button and then going through the Begin You site and submitting a form - please include "test from ___lodge name___" in the comments field. 

  5. We'll let you know when we've received your test form and we will send you all the forms submitted by visitors.

How to Get Started
The Basics
  1. Lodges may use all marketing materials and customize them in the allowable fields.

  2. Lodges may not change the materials, alter the wording, images, colours or customizable fields. No marketing piece may be resized, cropped or changed in any way.

  3. Each image is licensed and released for our use within these specifications and must not be altered. 

The Process

Print marketing requires consistency because consumer data proves that a person only remembers an ad after seeing three or four times. If the ad, poster or billboard is not consistent, there is no repetition and no response from the viewer. 

 

Step One

When your lodge decides to join the Begin You marketing campaign, the Cornerstone Project team will work with you to develop a strategy tailored to their community. You'll work through a marketing template to identify how many men you might be able to reach in your community, what features of Masonry in general and your lodge in particular are appealing to them and what ways your lodge might become more visible in your community. 

 

Step Two

The Cornerstone Project team will help your lodge develop a strategy based on your community information from step one. For example, step one might tell us if outdoor advertising is a good idea and what locations are best suited. The strategy will include a mix of marketing initiatives that could include events, public relations, social media, posters, billboards, leaflets, business cards, etc. The lodge will set some goals, review costs of initiatives, assign responsibility, set a budget and determine timing.

 

Step Three

The campaign launches and the lodge and the Cornerstone team begin tracking response. Together we might fine-tune the marketing mix and shift resources toward the best-performing initiatives. Your lodge will track new applicants and keep the Cornerstone team apprised of their progress. 

The Marketing Materials

Being a volunteer organization with limited resources, we’ve worked hard to minimize the time, labour and cost of producing each marketing piece by building templates. We’ve also found the most consistent quality production, rapid fulfillment, customer support and reasonable pricing through Vista Print. Thus, the templates are built for the standard sizes and materials offered through VistaPrint.ca. 

 

Each marketing item has one or two customizable areas for lodge identity and we will make those custom edits at no charge to the lodge. 

 

Any deviation from these templates requires the written permission of the Cornerstone Project leaders and any costs arising will be borne by the lodge requesting.
